Reasonable Accommodations

Your starting point for accommodations will depend on whether you are primarily a student or an employee.

Students

Academic Accommodations

Students seeking academic accommodations related to a disability or medical condition should register with the Ross Center for Disability Services. The Ross Center for Disability Services provides accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The Ross Center is also a resource for the campus community to ensure academic access and inclusion. The Ross Center provides:

  • academic accommodations
  • resources
  • training in assistive technology and alternative formats
  • information to increase the understanding of disability throughout the university community

Housing and Dining Accommodations

Students seeking disability related housing accommodations (room types, private bathroom, emotional support animal, or service animal in residence) can inquire about housing related accommodations via the Office of Housing and Residential Life. For more information about disability housing accommodations visit the housing accommodation page.

To connect with the campus dietitian about food allergens in dining or to inquire about a disability related dining accommodation email mealplan@umb.edu

Pregnancy Accommodations

Students seeking accommodations for pregnancy or pregnancy related conditions can find more information on the Title IX Pregnant and Parenting webpage, or by contacting the Office for Civil Rights and Title IX at civilrights.titleix@umb.edu.

Employees

Disability and Pregnancy Accommodations

The Office of Human Resources is a referral point for all employees seeking accommodations related to a disability, medical condition, or pregnancy. HR can:

  • answer questions related to reasonable workplace accommodations;
  • provide information regarding the ADA, Section 504, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, and related laws;
  • facilitate workshops and trainings on disability-related topics;
  • conduct an interactive process to evaluate and implement reasonable accommodation requests.

For more information, or to request a workplace accommodation, please view the accommodations page or email Susan.Damato@umb.edu

Religious Accommodations

Employees requesting accommodations based on religious or spiritual beliefs should contact the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX at civilrights.titleix@umb.edu.

  • Employees seeking religious accommodations must provide a request in writing (from a clergy member or the employee) that states the religious belief to which the accommodation they are seeking relates.
  • Requests for accommodations based on religious or spiritual beliefs will be reviewed by CRTIX, and the determination of reasonable accommodations may include discussions with the employee and their supervisor.
  • CRTIX’s determinations with regard to accommodations may be further reviewed by the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources.
