Demeturie Toso-Lafaele Gogue, PhD (he/him/his) is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Higher Education in the College of Education and Human Development. As a Sāmoan and CHamoru scholar, Demeturie is committed to advancing racial justice and equity to promote the success of students, especially Pacific Islanders, in higher education. Using qualitative research methods, case study design, and Pasifika ontoepistemologies, Demeturie's research explores how higher education institutions operate as racialized organizations and its impact on students’ experiences, STEM education, diversity initiatives, and institutional processes and practices. His research has been published in the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education and the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education.

Demeturie has extensive experience in higher education, working in multicultural student affairs, orientation, and residence life and housing. He has also worked at a variety of institutional types (e.g., two-year and four-year public institutions, four-year private institutions). He has taught courses on the history of higher education, access and pathways to higher education, Asian American and Pacific Islander education and schooling, organizational analysis in higher education, and introduction to pacific studies.

Demeturie earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Education, Graduate Certificate in Asian American Studies, and Master of Arts in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles; a Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from The University of Vermont; and a Bachelor of Arts in both Sociology as well as Gender and Women’s Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
