Academic Programs

About the Department

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development projects thousands of new positions per year will emerge in public health and related fields in the coming years. The BS degree in Urban Public Health prepares students for graduate education and for careers in state and local health departments, non-governmental organizations, health care organizations, the private sector, and federal agencies under the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).  Many students with a BS in Urban Public Health decide to pursue graduate education to become leaders in public health agencies and health care organizations.

Mission
The Urban Public Health Program mission is to create an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that fosters creativity and innovation in research, scholarship, education, and service to promote health equity in urban populations, preparing public health professionals to work in multidisciplinary urban public health environments. 

Vision
The BS program in Urban Public Health will be a leader in educating students to be innovative thinkers, strategizing to find public health solutions to the enduring problems of health inequity in diverse urban populations in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and beyond.
